Description
The Eterra EX-30 Heavy Duty Flail Mower for excavators is ideal for clearing brush from roadsides, ditches, driveways, fields, and much more. Designed for backhoes and excavators from 7500 lbs. to 14,000 lbs. The EX-30 operates efficiently on hydraulic flows from 8-26 GPM. With cutting capacities up to 4-5 inch material (up to 6 inches with slow, steady operation), this is not your average flail mower!
All Eterra flail and rotary mowers are built in Washington state, USA.
Construction
A lot of R&D has gone into finding the right materials to make this mower lighter than other mowers in its class to reduce your swing weight and keep you cutting in all conditions, including side hills and uneven terrain, without destabilizing your machine. The design of these mowers allows Eterra to use top quality steel for strength, while keeping them light at the same time. The welding and machining is second to none in the industry.
Eterra uses a 2 lb blade and premium Permco USA motors. The cutter shaft is electronically balanced for the most efficient operation and longest operating life in its class.
Please note that the EX-30 can either be purchased with an excavator coupler that we make, or with a blank mount for you to make your own. Couplers that are not part of the common ones we stock typically have a lead time associated with them. The EX-30 mower also is designed to run on excavators with a one-way flow setting or a “breaker circuit” on the hydraulics. This setting reduces hydraulic back pressure on the return line and increases the seal and motor life substantially. It also removes the need for a case drain line. Check with your dealer if you are unsure if you have this setting available or not on your machine.
The Eterra Cutter Shaft
Eterra uses 6″ DOM Tubing for their cutter shafts to insure a strong and long wearing product. Ettera does not use steel pipe. Eterra cuts it themselves and constructs one of the toughest shafts available. Then it is electronically balanced so when the flail is operating, it is hard to tell. No shaking from side to side or up and down. This is just another step that Eterra adds to make their mowers much better than the competition. Eterra’s goal is to produce the best possible product and deliver it to you in the most economical manner.
Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM)
Strong and well-finished DOM is an electric resistance welded tube tested for soundness of weld and drawn through a die and over a mandrel. This process imparts significantly improved mechanical properties to the tube, due to the cold working process. It is considered a high quality tube, and is normally constructed from SAE 1020 or 1026 steel. Note that, technically DOM refers to the process by which the tube is finished after having started as an ERW tube. Technically, DOM is not a type of steel tube, but rather a process. As so often happen though – in common use the term has become accepted to mean a specific type of tubing rather than a process. In this case, when people say “DOM” they normally mean an ERW tube drawn over a mandrel at (close to) room temperature and made from SAE 1020 steel. It is normally drawn to O.D. and I.D. dimensions. Here is what the Steel Tube Institute of North America has to say about DOM:
